I have never been to Mexico, but since I live in California I have met a lot of Spanish speaking people coming from this region. I am very interested in Spanish language and the Mexican culture. The first thing that comes to my mind when I think of Mexico is the celebration of Cinco de Mayo. I relate this holiday to Mexico because it originated there and also the confusion of it with the Mexican Independence Day made me do my own research to find out what do actually Mexican people celebrate on this particular day. I found out that 4,000 Mexican soldiers smashed the French and traitor Mexican army of 8,000 in the morning of May 5th 1862.
Another thing that reminds me of Mexico is the great culture of the Aztecs, simply because they builded their empire on the land of Central Mexico and left a significant cultural heritage behind them.
And last I relate the name of Hernan Cortes to Mexico, because he was the Spanish conquistador who invaded the Aztec Empire.
Lol it's funny that you mention Cinco de Mayo, it's my mom's birthday and I always tell her how there are numerous parties being celebrated for her birthday! Anyways it's a battle that gets very little attention in Mexico but is highly celebrated in the U.S.
ReplyDeleteActually Cinco de Mayo is celebrated more in Mexico than it is here in the U.S I haven't been able to b in Mexico during Cinco de Mayo but my family has told me that they have huge parties they are like block parties and they show the dance Folklorico which is fun I used to do it when I was in high school but they do many different things like fireworks and the kids get the day off from school.
ReplyDeleteCinco de Mayo is definitely a big celebration in Mexico.... I've only been there on a couple of occasions and one of the things that stands out to me is how involved the schools get for this holiday. The previous comments are right on track when they mention that everybody gets involved but for me, I especially enjoy the parades and marching of the school bands!
